Call for Journal Track Submissions
Overview
The Journal Track option is available for papers submitted for the General Sessions of the AROB 31st 2026. Accepted papers will be published in the journal Artificial Life and Robotics, Vol. 31, No. 1, 2026, and authors will have the opportunity to present their work at the symposium.
Please note that in-person participation and presentation at the symposium are required if the symposium paper is accepted, regardless of whether the paper is accepted, rejected, or still under review for publication in the Journal Track.
*Authors of accepted Journal Track papers will receive a discount on the journal publication fee equal to the Regular Early Registration Fee at AROB-ISBC 2026.*
Important Dates
Paper Submission Requirements
- Length: Maximum of 12 pages, including references and any appendices.
- Peer Review: All submissions will undergo a peer-review process. Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection by November 29, 2025.

Important Notes
- Symposium Proceedings: The initial versions of papers submitted to the Journal Track will be included in the symposium proceedings if they are accepted by AROB 31st 2026, regardless of their final acceptance for journal publication.
- Journal Issue: Accepted papers will be published in the AROB Journal Vol. 31, No. 1, 2026. If the final version of the accepted paper is not submitted in time, it will be published in a subsequent issue of the journal.
- Late Decisions: If the decision for a paper submitted to the Journal Track is not made by December 16, 2025 at 24:00 UTC, the paper will still be treated as a Journal Track submission and will be published in a subsequent issue of the journal.

This Joint Symposium of the 31st International Symposium on Artificial Life and Robotics (AROB 31st 2026) and the 11th International Symposium on BioComplexity (ISBC 11th 2026), held from January 21 to 23, 2026, at B-Con PLAZA in Beppu, Japan, invites you all to present original research and discuss the development of new technologies concerning artificial life and robotics based on computer simulations and hardware designs of state-of-the-art technologies.
History of Symposium
This symposium was founded in 1996 under the support of Science and International Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japanese Government. Since then, this symposium has been held every year at B-Con Plaza, Beppu, Japan except AROB 5th 2000 (Oita), AROB 6th 2001 (Tokyo), AROB 18th 2013 (Daejeon, Korea), and AROB 26th 2021 (ONLINE). The thirty-first symposium will be held on January 21-23, 2026, at B-Con PLAZA, Beppu, JAPAN.
Objective of Symposium
The objective of this symposium is to develop new technologies for artificial life and robotics and their applications in various fields listed in the Topics. Authors are invited to submit papers presenting original research and to discuss the development of new technologies concerning artificial life and robotics based on computer simulations and hardware designs of state-of-the-art technologies.
